Itinerary

On arrival at the Bandaranayake International Airport, you will get your first taste of warm Sri Lankan hospitality; the Representative of Tulip Holidays Sri Lanka will welcome you and transfer you to Pinnawala (2 hours drive). Overnight stay at Tulip of Ceylon Nature Resort.

Day 2 :
Kitulgala

After Breakfast, you will be transferred to Millenium Elephant Foundation Pinnawala by a Sri Lankan Tuk Tuk or the A/C Luxury Car given for your tour according to your preference (20 min drive).
At this place, you can enjoy your time with Asian Elephants while Feeding, Bathing and Walking with them. Elephant Riding can also be arranged upon request. Do not be surprised when you get the chance to witness baby elephants being bottle-fed or see them walk around freely causing absolutely no harm to anyone. It is a sincerely moving sight to observe how these orphaned gentle giants are taken care of here. Next, Experience White Water Rafting in the beautiful Kelani River, covering 5 significant rapids and 4 minor rapids. This action is for anybody over the age of 10 years with security gear, modern rafts, and comprehensive safety instructions will be given by the White Water Rafting Instructors before you start Rafting with them. The distance covered is around 5 KMs. The waterway and its encompassing will cause you to feel charmed, with a memorable experience during your White Water Rafting Tour in Kitulgala.

As the day draws to a close, head back to your Resort in Pinnawala.

Day 3 :
Kandy

After breakfast, You will be visiting an Ayurvedic and Herbal Garden (Free Entrance and Guide) to see the organic and endemic Ayurvedic plants and to get some knowledge about The Traditional Ayurveda. While enjoying a complimentary Ceylon Spice Tea session you can request for a complimentary Ayurvedic Head/ Neck or a Shoulder massage. Visit the Royal Botanical Gardens in Peradeniya, a flourishing national asset which is 45 mins away from The Ayurvedic Garden. First developed as a pleasure garden under royalty and later improved upon by the British, the gardens are located just four miles from Kandy and feature the most welcoming facilities as well. Walk into this 147-acre haven for an experience of bliss, passing well-tended lawns, pavilions and an octagon conservatory. Be greeted by the vast expanse of magnificently landscaped, lush green turf which will encourage you to take an exhilarating break. Towards the north of the entrance is a cafeteria that one might come across, before heading to some of the highlights here; this includes the Orchid House and the giant Javan fig tree, each with their sense of grace and beauty.
Next, you can have a visit to a Leather Shop with Arts and Crafts where you can do souvenir shopping as well. En route back, visit a Batik or a Silk clothing store. The batik craft in Sri Lanka is inspired mostly by Indonesian-style batik and can be found in all sorts of garments and textiles. From classic designs to more contemporary fashions, batik is an important part of Sri Lankan fashion and textile manufacture. Batik can be found in classic sarees and Western-style clothing. Witness The Sacred Temple of the Tooth in Kandy. Experience an ancient Kandyan legacy engraved around its crown jewel, a historic temple that houses the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha. Enjoy the beauty of the Kandy Lake Round and the city in the evening by wandering around this royal city. Last ruled by King Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe, before it was brought under the British rule in 1815, this city was the final royal capital of Sri Lankan kings. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it has a rich culture, history and heritage and attracts travellers from around the world.
Kandy city viewpoint is a place where you can see the whole city from one place. You will decide on the place you take your Lunch. Alternatively, take a stroll amidst the vibrant colour of the fresh fruits and vegetables in the Kandy Market. Fine-tune your evening by stepping to the beat of traditional music and drumming amplified by a cultural show that enhances the rich and vibrant culture of the Wonder of Asia.

After breakfast, Explore the Sri Lankan Gems by stepping into the Sri Lankan Gem Museum (FREE). Head off on an Indiana Jones-like adventure as you discover the treasures of Sri Lanka’s Dambulla Temple (3 hour drive). This UNESCO World Heritage Site is considered the country’s best-preserved and biggest cave temple which has a rich history which runs all the way to the first century BC. This is called the Golden Temple of Dambulla.
Next, take a 30 min drive to witness the eighth wonder of the world. The Lion Rock which is also called the Sigiriya rock is the most important cultural attraction of Sigiriya. The Rock features the remnants of a royal palace on its summit. While ascending the rock, one will get the chance the take in frescos of lovely maidens, the mirror wall and a series of other features. Also visit a Batik shop. The climate in Dambulla – Kandalama is exceptional for flying balloons, due to its extremely calm and predictable nature.
Sri Lanka Balloon Rides generally take place in the early morning (because the weather is more stable), and the average distance we cover, in accordance with the wind speed and direction, is anywhere from one to ten miles.
You can have a scenic Hot Air Balloon flight in the morning with Lanka Ballooning (Pvt) Ltd which is a fully licensed operator and approved by the CAASL (Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka) affiliated to Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation and relevant ministries to operate Hot Air Balloon Rides in Sri Lanka, or After breakfast, visit a beautiful village shaded on either side by a dry zone shrub forest called Hiriwadunna, with unpaved gravel paths and humble village folk - will give you a chance to witness Sri Lankan Village Life. A ride on a bullock cart along a dirt track and through rice paddies down to the picturesque Hiriwaduna Lake will leave you with a sense of peacefulness. A catamaran ride on the lake with its large variety of dry zone birdlife and views of the surrounding forest, marshland and vegetable plots of local farmers, will be an unforgettable experience for visitors and will most definitely be one of the places they feel most at peace, during the time spent in Sri Lanka.
Apart from a catamaran ride you can take rides on a tractor or hop on one of the much-loved tuk-tuks to a local home where you can interact with the family, witnessing and even assisting the women in the preparation of a typical Sri Lankan lunch using traditional Sri Lankan methods of cooking. Your next stop will be The Minneriya National Park (30-50 min drive), a wildlife sanctuary, is the most easily accessed National Park from the cultural triangle and the Minneriya Jeep Safari is one of the most popular activities among the travellers. The largest recurrent annual gatherings of wild elephants take place between July and September at Minneriya National Park. This gathering is listed by Lonely Planet as among the Top Ten wildlife spectacles in the world. Although the months in which the elephant gathering occurs offer the best experience, the safari tour of Minneriya National Park is a pleasing encounter any day of the year.
The park provides sufficient feeding ground for elephants and many other wild animals, such as Sri Lankan leopards and Sri Lankan Bears. The wildlife here comprises of 26 species of mammals, 160 species of birds, 9 species of amphibians, 25 species of reptiles, 26 species of fish and 75 species of butterflies.

After breakfast, you will take a 1-2 hour drive to another UNESCO World Heritage Site - The ancient city of Polonnaruwa which is the second capital of Sri Lanka. The first group of ruins you meet after entering the ground of the Ancient City is the Royal Palace Group. This group of buildings dates from the period of King Parakramabahu I (1153 – 1186). The King`s Royal Palace is a massive structure, measuring 31 m by 13 m, once including 50 rooms supported by 30 columns. Even today it is quite an impressive building, but picture it being seven floors tall with 3 m thick walls, as the archaeologists claim it once was!
Visit The Sacred Quadrangle is a compact group of beautiful and impressive ruins within a raised up platform bounded by a wall. This is the most concentrated collection of buildings in the whole Ancient City, and a must-see for any visitor followed by the Shiva Dewale and Gal Viharaya.

After breakfast, visit a place where one of the greatest civilizations of the ancient world flourished called Anuradhapura (2-3 hour drive) which was the first capital of Sri Lanka founded in the 4th Century AD and it is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world.
This UNESCO World Heritage site is a historical marvel with its well-preserved ruins of this ancient civilization. Amongst the masterpieces of this golden era are the many towering stupas (Dagabos), wonderful rock carvings, huge stone pillars, and ruins of royal palaces, monasteries and bathing tanks along with some of the most complex irrigation systems in the world, all of which demonstrates the architectural, engineering, hydrological and irrigational skills of this golden era.
Let the shade of the ‘Sri Maha Bodhi’, (a sapling of the sacred Bo tree in Bodh Gaya in India) give you peace and solace. Furthermore, you will visit Abhayagiri Dagaba which is one of the most sacred Buddhist pilgrimage towns and extensive ruins in the world. Ruwanwelisaya Stupa is considered a marvel for its architectural qualities. Thuparamaya where Collarbone of Buddha is enshrined and the first Stupa built in Sri Lanka. Lovamahapaya, also known as Brazen Palace which was once a structure of its own class.
Jetavanaramaya is the largest stupa in Sri Lanka and was the third-largest structure in the ancient world. Mirisaveti Stupa was built by King Dutugamunu after defeating King Elara (a legend associated with the relics of Lord Buddha) and Lankarama stupa which was constructed by King Valagamba in an ancient place. Transfer to Kandy (3 hour drive).

After breakfast, a 2-3 hour drive to Nuwara Eliya (the City of Love) via Ramboda Falls. En-route drop by to The Ceylon Tea Factory and Plantation where you will learn about Ceylon Tea Plantation and Manufacturing process (FREE) and some beautiful waterfalls. Nuwara Eliya, This town seems like a piece of English district. Tudor-style and Victorian homes look across the blue lake. These buildings are the other architectural monuments to the English, the Post Office, the English country house like Hill Club with its hunting pictures, mounted hunting trophies and fish, Anglican Church and private residence. The Golf course here is one of the best in Asia. Walking the sightseeing tour of Nuwara Eliya in the evening, visit the famous Gregory's Park where most of the Sri Lankan choose to Propose to their partners. Experience the misty winding roads, slopes blanketed by lush green carpets of tea bushes and invigorating fresh mountain air, the charming little town of Nuwara Eliya offers visitors an intimate getaway experience. Enjoy hikes among grassy slopes and valleys which open up to captivating vistas of a picturesque countryside hamlet.

After breakfast, Visit Horton Plains - a UNESCO World Heritage Site & Eco-tourism hideout in the heart of the isle (1 hour drive), Endless stretches of green pastures marks one of the healthiest wet montane evergreen forests in the Island. The Panoramic scenic beauty of the Hill Country could be witnessed within the Park. Endemic Slender loris and endemic purple Monkey are among the important animal species that could be seen, drive carefully through herds of Sambhar Deer, shy to human touch & Birdlife chirping across the plains. If you're lucky enough you may be greeted by the sights of a grunting Wild Boar, a pouncing Fishing Cat, otters or even the 'Spotted-Ghost that haunts the plains' - the Sri Lankan Leopard!
With an altitude above 7,000 feet, the plateau sweeps to a robust 3,169 hectares sheltering flora and fauna varieties that may be found nowhere else on earth. Take in the majestic Baker’s Falls, gushing down over jagged rock precipices. Trek through the frost-covered grass while breathing in the fresh air. You may even gaze down World's End, a head-spinning 3,700 feet drop towards the Southern end.

Day 11 :
Ella

After breakfast, you will be heading to witness one of the most scenic Train Rides in the world, Nuwaraeliya to Ella train ride (3-4 hours ride). We will pick you from the Ella Railway Station.
Visit the famous Demodara Nine Arch Bridge, Also known as the Bridge in the Sky. The Nine Arch Bridge is famous for its super tall arches, which you can walk on directly along the train tracks. While walking on top of the tall arches, you will be met with breathtaking views of tea plantations down below and peaks of mountains overhead. You can try the “Flying Ravana“ a zip lining over the Tea Fields. The course runs for half a kilometre, reaching speeds of nearly 80 KM/hour. In the evening you can have a chill at Night Pub Street.

Day 12 :
Ella

After breakfast, You can either trek to The Little Adam’s Peak or Ella Rock. Little Adam’s Peak is 1141 m in height and from the entrance, it takes up to 30-55 min for the hike. Views from the summit are incredible. 360 degrees panoramic views with clouds rolling in, is a treat to watch for any traveller.
The hike itself is a worthy experience as you walk through lush green tea estates, talking to locals who are plucking and collecting tea leaves, working in the estate. And The Ella Rock Hike is a famous cliff located high above Ella’s village and 1041m (3415ft) above sea level.
The view at the top rewards you with the most breathtaking lookout across the hills of the country. Like in most of the Sri Lankan highlands, there are Tea Estates everywhere. With just a little walking, you can get to the plantations quite easily. Why not veer off the path and walk through the tea for a bit.
Next, you can have a bath at the Ravana Falls, a famous and scenic waterfall in Ella.

Day 13 :
Mirissa

After breakfast, transfer to Mirissa (3 hour drive) which is one of the main beach destinations in southern Sri Lanka. The area has it all, one of the best beaches in the world, surf waves, whale watching and great bars and restaurants. You can chill on the beach and in the evening you will be headed to the "Doctors House" beach restaurant and pub to enjoy the evening with music, great food and drinks.

Day 14 :
Mirissa

In these two days, you can choose the activities you do. Some of the activities are Snorkeling, Kayaking and Surfing (The blue waters offer a good ride for beginners and experienced surfers equally. The spot is good for beginner and intermediate surfers to build confidence on a reef. The location of the point between rocks and a hill means its waves are hardly affected by onshore wind. Mirissa also has a beach break ideal for beginners and boogie boarders.). furthermore, you can hop into the "Coconut Tree Hill" a major tourist travel spot. The view or sunset view from here is simply amazing. You can do Whale and Dolphin watching which may take about 3-5 hours and you should check in to the Mirissa Harbour by 6 am. The tour takes about an hour to get into the Indian Ocean where the whales are known to be feeding. If you go during the whale watching season (September - Early May), your chances of seeing a whale are quite high (90-95%) and if not, you can re-book your tour (for free).

After breakfast, a 45 min drive takes you either to the "Jungle Beach Unawatuna" which is a calm and quiet beach and swimmable, not rough and just the right size or Unawatuna Main Beach which is one of the biggest tourist destinations in Sri Lanka and is the most “famous” beach in the country. It is a lovely banana-shaped beach of golden sand and turquoise water, surrounded by green palm trees. En route, Watch the Stilt Fishermen in Koggala.

After breakfast, head to the historic city of the Galle (20 min drive), where you will get the chance to wander around the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Dutch Fort. Walk along its cobbled streets lined with carefully preserved colonial buildings, shop at chic little concept stores and pay a visit to the Dutch Church and Museum to learn about the fortification’s rich history. 

Transfer to Hikkaduwa. Experience the picture perfect vistas of golden beaches, turquoise oceans and dazzling blue skies are all yours to enjoy when you visit this enchanting little coastal getaway.

Day 18 :
Hikkaduwa

After breakfast, You can laze upon the beach and soak up the golden sun or give yourself an epic adrenaline rush by enjoying the many forms of water sports that the region offers. Take a snorkelling tour and delve into the mysterious depths of the ocean to discover some of its best-kept secrets. The mesmerising beauty of the coral reef here can be observed when taking a glass-bottomed boat ride across the Hikkaduwa National Park, a world-famous coral sanctuary.

After breakfast, transfer to Madu River to enjoy a Boat Ride (50 min drive). 
Enjoy a serene boat ride down the tranquil, Madu River located in the Southwest of Sri Lanka, which flows to the city of Balapitiya. Luxuriate under the warm tropical sun, as you take in the flourishing wildlife inhabiting the shady mangroves which border the waterway. Guests will likewise have the option to visit minor islands situated on the river alongside a cinnamon estate which will give you a knowledge into the nearby community. En route, visit the Kosgoda Sea Turtle Conservation & Research Center, get up close and personal with some of the world's majestic creatures. The turtle farm breeds, releases and rehabilitates sea turtles of all ages. Tour the sanctuary with one of the knowledgeable guides, who will teach you about these magical animals. Visitors also have the opportunity to hold and, with some luck, release the creatures into the wild.

Day 20 :
Negombo

A full day of relaxation awaits you before you head back home. Located within a fairly close distance to Bandaranaike International Airport, Negombo offers some of the most exiting diving stretches in the country. It's known for the pristine stretches of shores and sandy-bottomed lagoon. It's also quite well known for offering fresh catches of Lobsters, jumbo Prawns and Crabs. If you're hoping to enjoy some thrilling water sports why not try your hand at Kitesurfing, Jet Skiing, Snorkelling or Scuba Diving? Negombo also offers visitors great entertainment options such as Bars, Discos and Clubs for a frolicking good time out in the town.

Day 21 :
Departure
